Bilecer Turcios Hernandez, of Woodbridge, and Juan Jose Bonilla Bonilla, of Woodbridge, were both speeding — perhaps, drag-racing — in the moments before the Wednesday, Aug. 30 crash on Minnieville Road and Hedgewood Drive in Woodbridge, Prince William County police said.

Hernandez was operating a 2014 Nissan 370 Z when he tried to pass Bonilla Bonilla's 2011 BMW 535 in an aggressive manner, and lost control, police said. Hernandez struck Bonilla Bonilla's vehicle, and caused both vehicles to leave the roadway, police said.

The Nissan traveled a short distance off-road before hitting a telephone pole. The BMW also traveled a short distance before veering into an embankment causing the vehicle to briefly become airborne and strike a tree. Bonilla Bonilla, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead on scene.

Hernandez was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No other occupants were in either vehicle and, no other vehicles were involved in the collision.
